Rock & Roll? Hall Of Fame.
Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 10:29AM Here we are again.
I'm Rowsdower, the producer of your Hard Rain Show. The cream in your coffee, the sugar in your tea, conservative hippie, and I'm sick of this crap.
This Rock & Roll Hall of Fame crap!
Do the words Rock & Roll have no meaning anymore? I'm talking about this new practice at the so called, "Rock & Roll Hall of Fame." The practice of inducting anybody who ever cut an album. This year it was Run DMC. Run DMC! They are not Rock & Roll dammit!
I got nothing against them as a group. I actually liked, "Walk This Way," with Aerosmith. In fact if there's ever a Hip-Hop Hall of Fame, Aerosmith should be in there, as an influencer, because that song was one of the first huge, crossover Hip Hop songs. I even like Christmas in Hollis.
Mom's cooking chicken and collard greens
Rice and stuffing, macaroni and cheese
That sounds like my house at christmas. But they're still not Rock & Roll. I felt terrible about the murder of Jam-Master Jay in 2002. But they're still not Rock & Roll.
This started with Miles Davis in 2006. Miles Davis, the great Jazz trumpet player. Everybody loves Miles Davis so nobody really said much. He was also old enough that you could call him an influencer.
Then in 2007 Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five were inducted. Now don't write me and tell me how much you liked them or how important they were to the development of Hip Hop. If that's what you think then put them in the "I Really Like Them Hall of Fame," or the "Important To The Development Of Hip Hop Hall of Fame." But they're not Rack & Roll so what is there to talk about here?
After Grandmaster Flash In The Pan got in in 2007, the hall took 2008 off and actually inducted Rock & Roll musicians, except maybe for Madonna. But this year they came back with Run DMC.
Why not put them in the baseball hall of fame? The NFL hall of fame. In fact I think Run-DMC and Grand Master Flash should both be in the PGA's Golf Hall of fame and if you disagree then you sir are worse than Hitler.
So whats this about then? Well when things are so obviously out of whack, when things are being done that make no sense, when common sense is suspended there's usually a liberal somewhere up the chain wreaking havoc. And at the top of this chain is...Jann Wenner. (YÄN WEN-ər) the co-founder and publisher of Rolling Stone and one the Founders of the R&R Hall of Fame. He along with the other mainly non-musicians who basically vote for Artists they like, decide what is "important," or "influential." Fans have no say in nominating, or in voting for the nomination. So its partly a popularity contest.
The other part is all about money. A former member of the nominations board came forward a few years ago and said, on EVIL Fox News,
"At one point Suzan Evans (former Rock & Roll Hall of Fame foundation director) lamented the choices being made because there weren't enough big names that would sell tickets to the dinner. That was quickly remedied by dropping one of the doo-wop groups being considered in favor of a 'name' artist ... I saw how certain pioneering artists of the '50s and early '60s were shunned because there needed to be more 'name' power on the list, resulting in '70s superstars getting in before the people who made it possible for them. Some of those pioneers still aren't in today."
So thats what this crap is all about. Selling tickets to the big show every year. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation is a non-profit and has status as a charity with the IRS, meaning they don't pay taxes. Pretty much all they do is throw this induction party every year. I wonder what they do with the rest of the non-profits that are donated to them.
Anyway thats it. The "cool" kids decide whats cool and then sell tickets to it. People that really do love Rock & Roll and think an artist or band "deserves," to be inducted are just pawns.
And fans of Run-DMC need to know that them being inducted was nothing more than a publicity stunt. A lame attempt to get the "kids," to pay attention.
Yeah, the kids like the Hip Hop don't they? Yeah, Stick em in there. Who cares right?
Well I care you bastards.
Rock and Roll ain't noise pollution. And Run-DMC and Grandmaster Flash ain't Rock & Roll.
I know it ain't Rock & Roll,
And I don't like it.
Say hi to your mother for me okay.
